Accelerometer Jump

Estimate vertical jump height from a single accelerometer — a phone in your pocket or a sensor worn on the lower back. Upload the CSV; the tool finds the vertical axis automatically and computes jump height two ways (flight-time and impulse–momentum), then cross-checks them. All processing is local in your browser.

Time + tri-axial acceleration (x, y, z). Units of g or m·s⁻² both work.
Recording protocol — 1) Stand upright and still, then hit record. 2) Stay still ~2 s (this finds “up”). 3) Perform one maximal jump, landing legs near-extended. 4) Stand still again ~1 s (a cross-check that the sensor didn’t rotate).

Need an accelerometer app?

Any app that records tri-axial acceleration and exports CSV works. Popular free ones: phyphox, Sensor Logger, Physics Toolbox Sensor Suite. Search the stores:
Tip: choose the “linear acceleration” / “acceleration with g” output and the highest available rate (≥100 Hz).

How it works

Quiet standing (≈1 s before the jump) calibrates gravity and finds the vertical axis. Take-off and landing are the start and end of the free-fall phase (the sensor reads ≈0 in flight). Jump height = g·t²/8 (flight time) and v²/2g from integrating acceleration to take-off.
